Dive Site - Bolsa Chica
Bolsa Chica is a 1,300 acre coastal estuary that serves as an ecological reserve. There are mudflats, salt marshes, coastal dunes, and much more. The scuba diving is mostly sandy, but worth a look considering the fact you may run into some amazing animals here. Halibut, thornback rays, surf perch, corbina and clams are among the wildlife here.
Here, you will find scattered rocks and a reef system that runs parallel to the shore line.
Use caution when entering and exiting the water. There is a life guard stand at this location, so make sure you ask the lifeguard about the water conditions before you enter the water. They are there for your safety and well being while conducting in-water activities! For added safety, make sure you have a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB), a knife and an underwater light to check out the little critters hiding among the reef!
This location is partially in the Marine Protected Area. It is a no-take area, meaning that you cannot take anything out of the water. So, no hunting here! Again, check with the lifeguards to make sure you are not in the MPA side of the park for hunting. It doesn't hurt to ask!
At this location, you will find Sheephead, Garibaldi, Senoritas, Bat Rays, Sand Bass, Sculpin and much, much more!
