If you haven't figured it out yet, Crystal Cove State Park is huge! Of the coves, Scotchman's (as it is known by scuba divers) is among the best places to dive. You'll know you are in the right area because of the very unique rock formations located at this dive site. You'll also know you are in the right area because you'll see some amazing homes hanging off the cliffs to the east. 

The best entry point is to the east of the partially submerged rock. If you attempt to use the rock as a navigation point, you'll find the beach is littered with rocks and crags that will kiss your shins and make you fall. 

Another safety feature is the high boat traffic. Ensure you are cautious when you surface in this area. It is best to get as shallow as you are comfortable before surfacing. This will prevent an accidental collision. 

Also use caution when entering and exiting the water. There is a life guard stand at this location. For added safety, make sure you have a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB), a knife and an underwater light to check out the little critters hiding among the reef! 

This location is partially in the Marine Protected Area. We suggest you ask the lifeguard before entering the water to make sure you are not taking from the wrong area and end up with a citation.
