Welcome to the Thousand Steps!

This site is one of the largest beaches in South Laguna and hosts a very wide, sandy beach complete with rest areas, tide pools, caves, fire pits and volleyball courts. One of the caves will take you over to Totuava when the tide is low. Enjoy that adventure walk if you plan to make a day out of the beach there!

Thousand Steps Scuba Diving

For the diving, this is a hot spot for spearfishermen because of the fact that there is an abundant kelp field out here. White Sea Bass are known to use the kelp paddy for protection along with other large animals in the area. This makes thousand steps a prime hunting spot.

The Thousand Steps at Laguna Beach, CA

Logistically, this is a location that is a bit hard to get to from shore and many divers with Riviera Yacht Charters enjoy diving here with ease. It is physically demanding to walk up these stairs and then enter a beachhead.

It is, of note, not considered a protected cove; which means wave action can get high and make this dive site a more advanced dive even with changing tides. Use caution when entering and exiting the water. There is a life guard stand at this location.

For added safety, make sure you have a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB), a knife and an underwater light to check out the little critters hiding among the reef!

This location is not in the Marine Protected Area. You are allowed to hunt here.

At this location, you will find Sheephead, Garibaldi, Senoritas, Bat Rays, Sand Bass, Sculpin and much, much more!
