Dive Site - Monarch Point
Monarch Point is located in South Laguna Beach, California. This site is home to the Monarch Beach resort and neighbor to Salt Creek (aka Thousand Steps). This site is easy to navigate with a very easy 210 degree heading out. You can almost go due South and see plenty of the site before turning around to head home. This is a very long surface walk and is frequented by many spearfishing enthusiasts and snorkelers. Divers don't typically dive here from shore unless they enjoy super long walks!
This site is a favorite of Riviera Yacht Charters because of the ease of entry and navigation as well as the protection from high winds for the boat with the breaking rocks to the south.
It is a shallower dive site that boasts low-lying rocks. You'll see a spot here that the wave action has collected up broken pieces of kelp and other items. Don't miss this spot or bypass! Many animals love hiding in this area and you'll get glimpses of some amazing sea life here!
There is no life guard stand immediately at this location. It is located closer to the middle grounds of this very large beachhead though. You'll more than likely not encounter a lifeguard while in the water here.
For added safety, make sure you have a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB), a knife and an underwater light to check out the little critters hiding among the reef!
This location is not in the Marine Protected Area. You are allowed to hunt here.
At this location, you will find Sheephead, Garibaldi, Senoritas, Bat Rays, Sand Bass, Sculpin and much, much more!
